My Dad always told me the best time to buy something, like a car, is when you don’t need it. It puts you in the best negotiating position. There is no desperation.

You are unhappy with your boss. Or you are bored with your current project. The guy that got hired a year after you just got promoted. You just got laid off.

In short: it’s time to start looking for a new job. It’s time to start networking.

But it’s too late. Now you are going to look desperate.

My Dad always told me the best time to buy something, like a car, is when you don’t need it. It puts you in the best negotiating position. There is no desperation.

The same goes for looking for a new job.

If you are either interested in the tech space or currently working in the tech space, there are literally 2-3 meetups a week that you can join in on. The great part is that all of them are totally welcoming and love new people. It makes everyone feel better.

So reach out and find a meetup in your interest group. Or extend yourself and attend a meetup of something you know nothing about. You might learn something and more importantly, you can tell your story of how you are looking for something new.

Did you just create a new job lead?
